As a mom, you have so much on your plate.
You’re busy caring for your young kings and queens, making sure everything runs smoothly, and trying to handle all the ups and downs of life.
You love your family, and it’s natural to want to be in control.
But sometimes, that need to control everything can make you feel anxious, stressed, or even tired.
It can feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world.
But what if you didn’t have to carry all of it?
What if you could trust that someone else had everything in control?
That’s exactly what God invites you to do—He wants you to surrender all your worries and plans to Him.
But, how do you do that?
How do you truly let go and trust that God’s got your back?
Let’s dive deeper into what it means to surrender to God and how you can start living with peace, knowing He’s in control.
What Does It Mean to Surrender to God?
Surrendering to God means letting go of control and trusting that He knows what’s best for you and your family.
It doesn’t mean giving up or not trying—it means that, instead of trying to figure out every detail on your own, you trust God to guide you.
Think of it like this: you’re driving a car, and you’re exhausted from being behind the wheel.
Surrendering means letting God take the driver’s seat.
You still need to pay attention, but you’re not the one in charge of steering.
God is in control, and He’s guiding you exactly where you need to go.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
This means we don’t have to have all the answers or understand everything because God already has a plan for us.
Why Is Surrender So Hard for Moms?
As a mom, it’s natural to want to take care of everythingggg.
You’re used to making sure your kids are safe, managing schedules, and fixing problems.
You might even feel like, if you don’t do it, things will fall apart.
But when we hold on too tightly, we sometimes leave no room for God to work.
We’re so busy trying to do it all that we forget to trust in God’s strength.
Why It Feels Hard:
- Fear of Losing Control: You might be scared that if you let go, things won’t go the way you want.
- Worry About the Future: As moms, we worry about our kids and what the future holds. It’s hard to surrender those worries to God.
- Wanting Quick Fixes: Sometimes we want solutions right away, but surrendering to God means trusting His timing, even when it’s slower than we’d like.
But here’s the thing: surrender isn’t weakness.
It’s trusting that God, who loves you more than anyone else, has a plan that is even better than what you can imagine.
5 Steps to Surrendering to God as a Mom
Surrendering takes practice, and it’s something you do day by day.
Here are some practical steps you can start using today to give your worries and plans to God:
1. Start Your Day with Surrender
Every morning, before you even get out of bed, take a moment to pray and ask God to take control of your day.
Say something like, “God, I give this day to You.
Help me trust You with everything I face today.”
By starting your day like this, you’re reminding yourself that God is in charge, not you.
Bible Verse: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
2. Catch Yourself When You’re Worrying
Throughout the day, you may catch yourself worrying about something—a problem at home, your kids, or the future.
When that happens, stop for a moment and give it to God.
You can pray something simple like, “God, I give this worry to You. I trust You to take care of it.”
Surrender doesn’t mean that the worry will disappear right away, but it does mean you’re choosing to trust God with the outcome.
Bible Verse: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6
3. Trust God’s Timing, Not Yours
One of the hardest things about surrendering is waiting.
Maybe you’ve been praying for months, but you don’t see any changes yet.
God’s timing is different from ours, and sometimes He’s working behind the scenes in ways we can’t see.
Keep praying, but trust that God will answer when the time is right.
Bible Verse: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
4. Give Thanks in All Circumstances
Gratitude helps us surrender because it shifts our focus from the problem to what God is doing.
Even if things aren’t perfect, thank God for what is going well.
Each night, think of three things you’re thankful for and say, “Thank You, God, for being in control and for taking care of me and my family.”
Bible Verse: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
5. Let Go of What You Can’t Control
There are some things in life we just can’t control, no matter how hard we try.
Maybe it’s a tough situation with your kids, your finances, or your health.
Surrendering to God means recognizing that you don’t have to fix everything.
Pray and ask God to handle the things you can’t change, and focus on what you can do today.
Bible Verse: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Trusting God with Your Whole Heart
Surrendering to God isn’t about having all the answers or always feeling calm.
It’s about trusting that God loves you and your family more than you ever could.
When you surrender, you’re saying, “God, I trust You, even when I don’t understand.”
As moms, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to make everything perfect.
But God is inviting you to let go, trust His plan, and find peace in knowing that He’s guiding every step.
Remember, you don’t have to carry everything on your own—God is with you, helping you along the way.
So today, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and surrender.
God’s got this, and He’s got you, too!
